The Amazon Prime Day Concert was another classic example of how Movie Prop Rentals makes the impossible … possible! As you’d expect, Amazon had some big ideas, including custom 3D-foam-fabricated delivery scooters, guitars, drums, keyboards, music notes, photo booths, DJ booths, merch tables, and marquis logo signage. We looked at their requests and told them, realistically, we’d need a good six weeks. They gave us four. Giddy-up!

About The Amazon Prime Day Concert

The Amazon Prime Day concert was designed to get shoppers psyched up for the fifth annual “Prime Day” online event, which featured 36 hours of deep discounts exclusive to Amazon Prime subscribers only. After last year’s successful NYC concert featuring Ariana Grande, they planned a similar “megaconcert” this year to add to the trending Twitter hashtags and the hype, streaming to 200 million Prime members across the globe. Glee star Jane Lynch hosted, with guest appearances from Michael Zegen of Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and celebrity Youtuber Tyler Oakley. Live-streaming performers included Taylor Swift, SZA, Dua Lipa, and Becky G.

What We Did

“… There was never any question who was throwing this invite-only party for select Prime members and various industry and media elite… Amazon logos and signage were everywhere,” remarks Variety Magazine. That’s how you know we did our job!

Among mentions of Taylor Swift t-shirt giveaways, confetti, gourmet grilled cheese and slider stations, and the concert itself, an eyewitness told ET Online about “the chance to take pics in multiple photo booth installations throughout the night.” Yep, those were ours, too!

All in all, Amazon contracted Movie Prop Rentals to:

  • Take the client’s rough CAD mock-ups and transform them into reality
  • Craft the merchandising center
  • Wrap and install branded walls
  • Create VIP lounge bars
  • Design, fabricate, and install lit music note signage for the foyer
  • Design, fabricate, and install the massive outside “Prime Day” marquis sign
  • Develop unique photo booth installations out of custom 3D-printed components

Insider’s Perspective

There are always challenges related to venue locations, and a Prime Day concert set in NYC was no exception. “Everything had to be fireproofed for New York Fire Department requirements within a theater,” explained Movie Prop Rentals’ Jerry Blohm.

“They were extremely particular about the colors for the branding – as all national brands are – but they made us do PMS color chips for everything. That was just an added layer of diligence to ensure we met with discerning client expectations.”

The whole set was built to be modular, so it could ship from Georgia and Florida studios up to New York City and be dropped in quickly. The word “Prime” was set on one 20-foot aluminum grid, and the word “Day” was set on another 10-foot aluminum grid. “Believe it or not, those massive grids went up in one shot,” says Jerry.

It took two days and a core crew of five Movie Prop Rentals staffers from Miami, plus six more locals in NYC, to get the Amazon Prime Day event setup and subsequently torn down.

“What they did with those six-foot music notes when all was said and done, I’ll never know!” laughed Graylan Franklin, co-partner at Movie Prop Rentals.
