Goodyear blimps have been our “eyes in the sky” since 1925. They’ve gone to war. They’ve provided aerials for live sporting events. They’ve advertised. Sometimes, though, the advertisement giant could use a helping hand with their set dressings to stage an attention-grabbing promotion. In November 2019, Goodyear came to Movie Prop Rentals to design an office set for a commercial.
What We Did
Movie Prop Rentals specializes in transforming a vision into reality through the use of construction, props, and set design. We worked with Alan Bibby and Jeff Cutter over at Chirp Films to create a modern, glass-walled office in the sky. Our prop house brought in Astroturf, a miniature football, a basketball hoop and ball, license plates, parking meters, fire hydrants, a dumpster, and newspaper boxes for a gritty urban feel.
Insider’s Perspective
“All the equipment for the office set had to be dragged up six stories to a rooftop in Downtown Miami,” Movie Prop Rentals’ Jerry Blohm recalls. “The set was perched on a 24″ steel deck riser that was 8 feet deep and 12 feet across. The office had three 4×8-foot tall windows set on an 8×12-foot wide wall, bolstered by four upright aluminum mullions. Up this high, you have to account for all kinds of weather, especially in tropical Miami! We put opposing jacks and heavy sandbags on the window wall to avoid wind shear and shift.”
“We proactively created a computer rendering of our design proposal and matched it with great precision,” adds Movie Prop Rentals’ Graylan Franklin. “The director was surprised by the level of detail we put in. The office desk was white glass with a standard in/out box. This office had it all: folders, paperclip holders, matching pen holders, laptop, desk lamp, rolling chair, all the way down to an iPad in a leather case.”
