It’s hard not to love Justin Bieber. He brings a vibrant energy to any set, but we wanted the backdrop for “La Bomba” (2020) to create the right vibe to make him shine. The song also features reggaeton heartthrob J. Balvin. Movie Prop Rentals works with many music video production companies to deliver props, art direction, sets, and special effects.

About the Music Video

We shot this video in Miami on February 27, 2020, working with director Colin Tilley. Movie Prop Rentals is primarily sustained by referral, so it was nice to work with Colin again after collaborating on DJ Khaled’s “Let It Go” video. The song leaked on March 3, just in time for Justin’s birthday, and officially made it to EU Music in June. Over six months, the song picked up over 54,000 views, which isn’t too bad for an unreleased song that didn’t make the cut for his Changes album that dropped last year.

What We Did

Lighting was a crucial element in this video. Many of the shots were in partial darkness, so we needed hotel TV sets, a variety of lamps, candles, and we threw in a glowing cross for added Latin flavor. We had to create several sets– hotel, club, balcony– where the English/Spanish song could be performed.

Insider’s Perspective

“I think, for this song, this video, Justin wanted to do something a little different than what he’s done before,” explained Movie Prop Rentals’ co-founder Graylan Franklin. “We had him riding around in Lamborghini golf carts living the high life in the last video, so the backdrops here are a complete 360 from that. You’ve got a very stripped-down and bare hotel room, classic cars that are not in mint condition, an Old-World style balcony, a beaten-down porch where Biebs busts his signature salsa moves.”

Jerry Blohm added, “We really pride ourselves in making the impossible possible. Need to read a book underwater? We’ve got truckloads of books. Room full of snakes and scorpions? Sure. Burning building? Yeah, we do that. No ask is too outrageous. If we don’t already have what you need in our prop warehouse of tens of thousands of movie props, we can just make something in our 3D printing studio next door. Our pleasure!”
