When Quicken Loans launched their Rocket Mortgage product, they developed the “More Than A House” series of four commercials to humorously show the inner dreams of homeowners. The series included “More Than a Lawn,” “More Than a Game,” “More Than a Bath,” and our personal favorite, “More Than a Pool.”
What We Did
Movie Prop Rentals was called on for props and art direction. We brought in the iconic blue pool float, vibrant orange pool furniture with teal throw pillows and matching umbrella, the dolphins, and the kids’ snorkel gear.
Building realistic-looking dolphins was a labor of love for our studio. After drawing up the blueprints online, we printed the base, installed metal substructures so we could control and manipulate the object under water, added concrete for ballast, carved, painted, and waterproofed. They were big – life-sized, too! The folks on-set were surprised to see our crew easily hoist the structure overhead, as it was much lighter than it looked.
Director Sorrel Brae sent us positive feedback: “On a difficult shoot, one of the clear bright spots for me was the Art Department – both for your on-camera delivery and positive off-camera attitude. Thank you!” Further, he praised our associate for possessing the “sensitivity and the intelligence to know what was and wasn’t needed in each shot – a welcome comfort.”

“We got right into the water on this one,” Art Director Jerry Blohm recalls. “It was a gorgeous, sunny day, but it was a crazy day with floating gear platforms, boats, little umbrella drinks, and multi-million-dollar camera equipment.”
“Native Content Production Company is a great boutique firm with a little over a decade in. You don’t want too many cooks in the kitchen, as they say, but it does help to have a few of us grizzled old guys with Hollywood chops on-set,” Jerry adds.
“When you’re out in an unforgiving, salty, sunny environment like this, you want to get each and every shot just right the first time, so you don’t have to haul everybody back out and hope to replicate the same weather conditions a different day,” says Art Director Graylan Franklin.
