About the Project
Sensational news headlines depicting bizarre activities allegedly perpetrated by “Florida man” have captivated the public for nearly two decades. Before launching their IPO, direct-to-consumer company Kin Insurance wondered what if “Florida Man” was just one man– who really needed insurance? And what if he was a well-meaning guy– the world’s worst superhero– with a streak of bad luck but a sunny outlook nevertheless? In their film, they explore the events leading up to headlines like “Florida Man on Nude Beach Terrorizes Retiree with Sausage” and “Underwear Clad Florida Man Terrorizes Garden Party, Drinks Bird Bath.” Movie Prop Rentals was called upon to work alongside Kin Insurance, the Vayner Media agency, Art Class production company, and Director Vincent Peone to tell the untold story of “Florida Man.”
What We Did
Movie Prop Rentals dressed all the sets and acquired all the props for the “Florida Man” campaign. We needed a dilapidated, burned-out house, a lawnmower, umbrellas, dart boards, beach towels, coolers, samurai swords, a director’s chair, destroyed furniture, a newscaster’s desk, a boat, a birdbath, a rubber snake, a pool float, a 90s television, a grill, patio furniture, and everybody’s favorite– the Florida gator prop.

“Especially in this line of work where anything can happen,” mused Movie Prop Rentals’ Jerry Blohm, “I guess you could say we all have a bit of Florida Man in our hearts.”
“People are often amazed to learn how much goes into a 30-second spot,” added co-owner Graylan Franklin, “so you can only imagine what a deep dive into the prop warehouse we did for this seven-minute mockumentary.”
“We leave no stone unturned,” Jerry explained. “We find those perfect items that convey a sense of time and tale. They pop and add a wow moment at times– as with the rubber snake or alligator in the swimming pool– or they make a more subtle statement in the background, like the twisted metal table burned by the flames or the fun-lover’s dartboard strangely sitting on the kitchen counter.”
“We are expert finders and expert set decorators,” says Graylan. “We work well with others and can do as much or as little as you need to make your project a success.”
